Privacy Policy

Last updated: September 12, 2026

This policy covers the Safari Stories mobile app, the companion app for Craft Yo Safari travellers, built around two things: destination challenges and trip capture. It explains what the app collects, why, and the choices you have. It does not apply to third-party sites you may reach by following a link out of the app.

01Information we collect

Account information: your email address, username, and optionally your first and last name, phone number, country, preferred currency, and a profile photo. You sign in with a numeric PIN verified alongside a one-time code sent to your email; we do not use passwords. You can also explore the app as a guest before creating an account.

Challenge content: photos and videos you capture for a challenge, any caption you add, and reports or appeals you submit about a post.

Trip capture content: the itinerary loaded against your trip code, and the day-by-day photos, videos, and voice notes you record as your trip unfolds, used to build your highlight reel and full story export.

Location: precise GPS, but only while you are actively using the in-app camera to capture a photo or video, so we can tag it with where it was taken. We do not collect your location in the background, and declining location access still lets you use the camera.

Device permissions: camera (to capture challenges and trip media, and scan destination and trip-code QR codes), microphone (for audio on your videos, if allowed), and photo library (to set a profile picture or save an exported video, though we do not otherwise browse it).

Usage and technical data: which posts you view, your challenge and points progress, and standard server logs such as IP address, device type, and app version, used for security and diagnosing problems.

We do not collect contacts, calendar, health, or biometric data, and we do not use advertising identifiers.

02How we use your information

We use the information above to:

  • Create and secure your account, and verify it's you.
  • Load your itinerary from a trip code, and geo-tag and organize your trip capture by day.
  • Show you challenges, track points and badge progress, and process redemptions.
  • Publish your Public posts to the community feed and keep Private posts visible only to you.
  • Review reports and appeals about content that may break our community standards.
  • Keep the app secure and diagnose technical problems.

We do not use your information for personalized advertising, and we do not sell it.

03How information is shared

We share information only as follows:

  • With other users, as you direct: a Public post's photo/video, caption, and your username become visible to other Safari Stories users.
  • With service providerswho help us run the app, including Bunny.net, which stores and streams the photos and videos you upload, strictly to provide the app's media features.
  • For legal reasons, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Safari Stories, our users, or others.

We do not sell your personal information or share it for third-party advertising.

04Data retention and security

We keep your account information for as long as your account is active, and your uploaded posts until you delete them or your account, unless a report or appeal is still open. Media you have captured but not yet uploaded is stored only on your device. Logging out deletes local photos, videos, and trip data that hasn't been uploaded yet, so back up anything you want to keep first.

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures, including encrypted connections, to protect your information. No method of transmission or storage is completely secure.

05Your choices and rights

  • View and update your profile information in the app at any time.
  • Set individual posts to Private, or toggle whether your profile is public.
  • Decline the location permission at any time and still use the camera. New media just won't be geo-tagged.
  • Report a post that breaks our community standards, or appeal a report filed against you.

To delete your account and the data attached to it, use our account deletion request form. Depending on where you live, you may also have rights under laws like the GDPR or CCPA/CPRA, including to access, correct, or object to certain processing of your data. Contact us using the details below to exercise these.

06Children's privacy

Safari Stories is not directed at children, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it. See our Child Safety and Protection Policy for how we prevent and respond to any content that endangers minors.

07Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. We will update the "Last updated" date above, and where a change is material, we will provide additional notice in the app.
